Please share your comments about your experience : Custer, South Dakota – Buffalo Ridge Camp Resort. We worked there the months of May and June 2019 as workampers. Our jobs included working outside, parking campers, mowing grass, trimming trees, cleaning sites, hauling garbage, etc. Inside work was stocking shelves for the store, counting inventory, receiving payments for store purchases, cleaning office bathrooms and office/store, and checking in arriving guests and departures. The compensation was FHU and pay for all hours worked. We were expected to work at least 40 hours a week. We were given two days off during the week. The wi-fi in the park was sketchy – we had to use our own most of the time. We did receive the VIP pass for the Black Hills area. The new managers and maintenance personnel from the corporation had only hotel experience. Reservations for campsites were made to a Black Hills wide reservation site or the corporation call center. The reservations for the campground were assigned using motel reservations software, not Campground Master as their ad states. Not having this information, we were faced with a large 5th wheel or motorhome arriving that had been assigned to a small 30 amp site which was impossible for them to access. Many of the campsites were unlevel which resulted in front wheels off the ground. Others were difficult to pull in and out of for the different types of rigs. We chose this job because of good reviews from prior workampers and the agreement there would again be four workamper couples for the park. Arriving in May, we found new management and no other workampers for the season. Local workers with no campground experience were then hired to complete our work staff. They expected and were granted weekends and nights off. We worked every weekend and all our shifts were afternoon/evening shifts. We have had other workamper jobs and do not believe in leaving a job early, but this environment beat us down. We would not return to this park. We feel it is not a good match for most workampers unless changes are made.
