Please share your comments about your experience : If you love being around animals and the outdoors, this is the place. For volunteers, there are morning & evening chores and some helping clean at the adjacent BnB. There is plenty of time during the day to get out for hiking, birdwatching or checking some of the many historical sites nearby, or just relaxing. Toni is super cautious of the folks she accepts, so expect a lot of questions. It is definitely physical labor as you are hauling bales of hay and buckets of feed and wheelbarrows of manure during chores, but hey, saves you from paying to go to the gym! The horses and other animals are so sweet to be around. I was there in Feb and March, so nights were high desert cold but days were comfortable and perfect for hiking. The starry nights were amazing too. The wifi situation was fine as she had it set up right by the RV lots. I hope to go back again!

Did you receive any special benefits or perks while workamping? : Sometimes we got the extra vegan delicious food she prepared for her food truck, YUM!

Please share your comments about your experience : A great place in a scenic location. We worked six and a half months caring for horses, donkeys, goats, geese and chickens at the sanctuary, cleaned at the adjacent vacation rentalB&B and assisted with food prep for mobile vegan cantina. We enjoyed the remote location, about 40 scenic minutes to Sierra Vista. Close to the Arizona trail, Patagonia, wineries and Tombstone. I We really enjoyed watching the sun rise on Mount Wrightson, a different scenery each morning! Only had one dusting of snow all winter, which melted immediately. Days were sunny with fifties and sixties, nights were cool, usually in the thirties. Stargazing was tremendous! Made some great friends here!

Did you receive any special benefits or perks while workamping? : Nice 50 amp full hookup site close to barn. Toni has a heart of gold and was very generous and kind, sharing plenty of veggies and great vegan dishes! She also provides free laundry facilities and wifi.

Please share your comments about your experience : The wife And I interviewed with Toni in Feb, 2017 and it was clear that she is very strict in caring for the animals. Feeding horses at 5:30 AM and 5:30PM which as a retiree is to regimented for my style.

Job Title: BnB host and animal care taker

Did you receive Wages or Stipend ?: Yes

Please share your comments about your experience : This owner hired me to work in her BnB and care for the animals at this so called sanctuary. I call it that because, while the horses were well taken care of the others animals, especially three of the goats were lacking. I had the opportunity to work with out-going workampers, who stated they enjoyed the job, but the owner really did not go out of her way to communicate that well. This was the major issue, "lack of communication". On a scale of 1-10, it was a 1. The owner relied on these two to teach me everything in a week, she works outside of this place 13 hrs a day, 6 days a week and on the 7th spends the entire time cooking for a cantina she owns. She did not even have a way to communicate when she was gone. No phone, nothing. She stated she would email me if there was anything she needed to tell me, however, there was NO internet service...I found out later that past care takers had to provide their own internet service and it was lacking at that. From the time the other care takers left, it was very uncomfortable being around her, as she would not talk to me, even when we were in the same vehicle or the same room. If I made a mistake, she would get angry and treat me as if I had not a clue or any common sense. The other issue, is she stated she had wireless and phone was limited, but Verizon worked. The wireless turned out to be down at the BnB, not even close to where the trailer was and when I did use it, she got upset that I was over loading the system because it was satellite only. Again, because there was NO internet service, which she said she provided, there was no way to communicate with her. She has a dozen dogs that bark constantly, because they get no attention at all and she calls these, "her rescues". I am a dog lover and these dogs were not well kept at all. One was a little crazy from lack of attention. In the end, I left because she hired two people to take my place and I had no idea she was even doing this, until they showed up. Major lack of communication and I feel she has too big of personal issues to provide comfortable place to work.
